When
does my baby need the first pair of shoes?
If this question is in regards to the first pair of walking shoes, a general rule
applies. When your baby is showing a desire to let go of furniture, or your hand,
with the intent of taking steps, that is the ideal time to come to KidsNshoes
for a
pair of flexible walking shoes.
Just pulling up is not necessarily a sign that your baby is ready for walking shoes.
Many times a baby will begin standing with the help of furniture and still be several
months away from actually walking and needing specific walking shoes.
What should I look for in my babys
early shoe needs?
This is probably the most misunderstood and confusing question for parents! Over the past decades studies have shown repeatedly that a baby, up until the stage of
beginning walking, needs no shoes at all. Their little feet need the freedom to flex and
curl their toes, as well as test the waters of pulling up and bearing weight.
Once a child begins to walk, the overall consensus is to make certain the footwear is
flexible and that a proper fit is achieved. Sometimes, well intended advice from doctors or others can mislead parents concerning
what footwear meets the requirements of fit and flexibility. Flexible,
comfortable shoes that come in a wide array of sizes and widths. Some babies need shoes
designed to accommodate extra wide feet. Others, have extremely narrow heels. All
babys have unique and special qualities that necessitate professional care and
concern.
What about Pre-walking
shoes?
Many times the need for footwear arises prior to actually walking.
We make available light weight, quality foot coverings that come in
styles that are shiny patent dress; white traditional high tops; or resembling soft
athletics.
This is all new to me, what brands should I
look for?
Remember the rule of fit and flexibility! The important thing for a
parent to look for are brands that specialize in early footwear needs. Famous adult lines
often distribute little, downsized versions of grown up styles. Just because you may wear
these brands, does not mean they are appropriate for your babys unique footwear
needs.
Providing parents with the resources and partnering with you is what
KidsNshoes
is all about. A major part of that commitment is offering only those brands that we are
certain provide the fit and the design features your child will benefit
from. Also, we specialize in early footwear needs.
How long can I expect my child to wear a
pair of shoes?
Today is not that different from a generation ago. The same concerns face all parents.
The answer, of course, depends on the individual child. But, we do have some time tested
averages, observed over a forty year period of fitting childrens footwear.
On the average, an infant properly fitted in a pair of shoes, can be expected to
remain comfortable for a period of 8-12 weeks. That is right, as you already have
observed, a baby changes dramatically in a 2-3 month period and their feet are no
different. A toddler, and most pre-school age children, will remain comfortable in proper fitting
shoes for a slightly longer period, from 10-14 weeks.
Certainly, since your young child grows and develops so rapidly, the need for care and
experience in fitting them is never as important as in these early years! Remember,
KidsNshoes
specializes in the footwear needs specific to these critical, formidable years.
To make this easier we have created a
Size
Helper page.
