History: A
Tribute to CRF
In a small town in Northern Illinois a young father was trying to build a business to support his family. The business was Fenwick Footwear and the man was Charlie Fenwick who decided to start a family shoe business based on service and quality. He wanted to do it right! (He always said "If anything is worth doing, its worth doing right"). The Baby Boom and Suburbia The town grew and grew. Cornfields became houses, houses became homes and the homes exploded with kids, kids and more kids! Hard working parents looked for someone they could trust to fit their children and provide them with quality shoes. Fortunately there was Charlie. Charlie carried every style in every size and width (so that he would never have any reason to misfit a young foot). His reputation and sales grew, families would come from miles around to this kind man who had a heart of gold. Calls would come to his home after the store had been closed with parents telling a tale of a lost shoe or wedding or birthday party that required a new pair of shoes. Charlie would never say no, "meet you in five minutes" could be heard often. Although, Charlie provided an adequate living to his family, he never made much money, it always went back into buying more shoes! Charlie wanted to be able to have something for everyone, and in most every case he did! Time Marches On (1979) The winters were always hard in the Midwest, lots of snow and cold weather. Fenwick Footwear faced many of those winters (25 to be exact) and finally it was time to move on. The warm climate of Austin, Texas brought Charlie south and soon transformed Fenwick Footwear into a semi-retirement business devoted to none other than KIDS! It was a small seed of a business in a city that once was just a Capital City and University Town. Seeds, with proper attention and care, sprout and sprout it did! If anything is worth doing it, its worth doing right! Fenwick Footwear dba Sandys Shoes has become one of the largest (maybe is the largest), childrens shoe store in the world! Parents from all over central Texas come to Sandys to get the best selection, value and fit available anywhere. Today The world has changed since 1954. Service, selection and quality are becoming concepts that are almost obsolete. The internet is on the verge of reinventing our lives. The concept of KidsNshoes is an attempt to bring those concepts back in a brand new way. Charlie Fenwick may still be at work thanks to his legacy he has passed on to us. Charlie left us all in October of 1997. |
